A lot of waxcaps and other grassland fungi are not uncommon – it is the sites with a wide diversity of species that are now uncommon. However, there are of course special species that, if found, specimens of which should be collected and dried following the recommended processes described on this website. It can be annoying to find out later that you should have collected a specimen and then cannot re-find it. These pages highlight some of the “specials” to look out for and how to identify them. Click on one of the groups below to learn more about the “specials” in each of the groups:
C: Clavariaceae or Fairy Clubs
H: Hygrocybe s. lat. or Waxcaps
G: Geoglossaceae or Earth Tongues
D: Dermolomas and allies or Crazed Caps
