WaxcapIreland, a recording project run in conjunction with CEDaR kicked off in 2025. A lot more information will be added to these webpages over the next few months including details of all the grassland fungi target species, how to identify them, where they are and how to get involved. The first results for 2025 can be looked at on these pages but also have a look at the sequencing reports available on the NIFG Download page.
In the meantime, join the Northern Ireland Fungus Group Facebook group and post photos of any finds you may have. Come along to some of our remaining forays but also download and try the excellent new Waxcap identification app on the Google Play Store or Apple Store. Also make sure to download and read Mark Wright’s Introduction to Grassland Fungi which includes a key on the Irish Grasslands website.
If you have any finds that you think may be special, please post on the NIFG Facebook group but also read the updated page on drying and preserving specimens for further identification or DNA sequencing.
